OU offers two new IT related courses

Osmania University's department of commerce is introducing two courses from the academic year 2001-02 on self-financing basis, which are expected to have good demand in the market. Both courses, with 40 seats and are open only to commerce graduates from any university.

The department on self-financing basis conducts evening sessions offering a two-semester post-graduate diploma in E-commerce [PGD E-Com]. The second one is a four-semester Master of Commerce in Computer Information Systems [MCIS] is being launched as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] reached with the Eastern Michigan University [EMU], USA, recently. The PGD E Com would come with a fee of Rs 25,000, and the MCIS would cost Rs 15,000 per each semester.

As per higher authorities, the fee was far lesser than what usually charged by private computer institutes for similar courses, which were also more comprehensive.

The unique feature of MCIS, according to the department is that it provides an opportunity to the students to study the third and fourth semesters at the EMU. Students opting to study in that manner will be given credit for the courses completed at OU, and will be accorded the status of a resident student at EMU. Other features like project work and placement assistance will be there for these two courses as well.

The titles and contents of the courses in the first two semesters of study for MCIS have been modeled on the lines of EMU. The third and final semesters have been designed tentatively so as to change them, in consultation with EMU, according to the demands of the market.

Eligibility of these courses is the usual pre-requisite of qualifying such as Graduate record examination, Test of English as foreign language and Test of Written English will apply for them too, which they would have to complete before the end of the second semester. The fee would pay Rs 30,000 to OU towards the first two semesters of study. Admissions will be made through an entrance examination of 90 minutes duration for 100 marks in English medium, which would have questions for 40 percent marks in commerce, 20 percent English, 20 percent analytical abilities and 20 percent general knowledge relating to commerce, management and economics.
