Photography

Photo stood for the past, present and the future. It represents not only symbolic but also realistic. That’s why photographers not only click photographs but also tell stories with pictures.

The word photography is derived from the Greek 'Photos' [light] and 'Graphein' [to draw]. Earliest photographs like daguerreotypes, has nowadays become an art, which involves the latest techniques and the most sophisticated equipment. So photographers have to be constantly on the look out for such changes and move with the times.

Photography is not only a profession as well as an art form. If a person who want to be a part of this extremely creative profession, needs keen eye for what is 'photo worthy' or aesthetic sense, and thorough knowledge of cameras and the latest technicalities. For photography as a career, one must have that extra quality, an interest in visuals, shape and shadow, interest in light and observation.

Photographers, like artists, have a wide range of choices as far as subjects are concerned. From photojournalism [which deals with lending a visual touch to news reporting] to fashion photography, mood photography, still life photography and wild life photography.

Freelancing has been the most popular career choice among photographers.

There are two routes in to this career. One is formal and the other is experiential. Formal training or a course in this subject opens options for working with newspapers or magazines. Experiential is to learn as an apprentice to a professional photographer, which can involve learning the basic jobs before getting to know the real techniques of the profession. Photography is more craft learnt through practice, it requires inner ability, an intelligent, curious and perceptive mind.

After class XII, one can join as an apprentice with a photography unit. Graduation could be pursued through correspondence. One can join a graduate course in applied art. In our state 'JNTU' and 'Padmavati' universities are offering photography one-year diploma course.

Photographers can start working as assistants to senior photographers, in which capacity they are paid around RS. 3,500 - 6,000. Beginning with RS 6,000 or so and going up to 25,000, are depending upon the designation and the organisation.
