'The Study of Anthropology'. The basic requirement for these studies are interests in past, curiosity in investigating evidences, and interested in different culture and customs. Besides this good interpersonal skill, a logical mind and the ability to work as a team member will be essential
Anthropology is the scientific study of the nature of man, including the development of his body and mind and society. In short it is professional study of various aspects of human evolution. The study of Anthropology has several aspects like Physical aspects of human evolution, Archeological aspects, Linguistic aspect, social aspect and the application of knowledge. An anthropologist has to work with organisations dealing with social, cultural, medical and health research, developmental organisations and welfare bodies.
Investigating evolution of the human race by studying the development of physical characteristics, religious and cultural practices at different periods of time are an Anthropologists nature of work. Anthropology has been classified into five different branches like Physical Anthropology, Socio cultural Anthropology, Archeological Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology and Applied Anthropology.
Physical Anthropology deals with scientific study in the evolution of human race. This study is beneficial for studying the physical differences between the races of the species, modes of physiological adoption and reaction to different physical environments. The study of physical attributes of existing and prehistoric human types of genetics of groups and biochemical studies helps anthropologists to distinguish relationship between man and higher animals like apes and monkeys.
Socio - Cultural Anthropology is the study of understanding people from different associations, brands, tribes, communities as well as their life style. It includes study of physical, social and mental characteristics of both past and present groups of human beings. This study identifies regularities governing human cultural life and interprets cultural phenomena over large geographical areas and lengthy time spans.
Archeological Anthropology deals with remains of earlier human activity by determining the chronological sequence of events as they would have appeared and compare the search from different sites. In this case anthropologists has to work on excavation sites for exploration of prehistoric site and find the early human remains which consists of bones or objects used for human activity.
Linguistic Anthropology is a study of tracing links between languages and culture by dealing with the formation of languages and discusses historical events in process and identifies independent stems in vocabulary of various languages. This study includes both spoken and written languages.
Applied Anthropology is nothing but the application of this anthropological knowledge in diverse areas. Anthropologist has to help government agencies in areas of birth control, health, and mental health, in tribal areas for welfare activities and in industrial and labor related areas.
It is at both graduate and Postgraduate level. Students from Science [BSc] or Humanities [BA] background can enroll. Some universities conduct the course through their science faculty and some through Humanities section. In our State University of Hyderabad, Andhra University Visakhapatnam conducts Anthropology in the Arts Faculty.
The ultimate goal to be reached at last but not the least is a persons carrier so what next?
Nothing to be bothered about, anthropologist has got innumerable opportunities in various fields. They work with welfare organistions, Medical research organisation, and Human resource department for developing cross-cultural communication skills. Universities and museums for archeological surveys and research require anthropologists. Museums also require them for classifying objects and arrange them for proper display. Organisations conducting biological surveys too require them. International organisations like World health Organistion, United Nations volunteer projects as well as UNICEF employ Anthropologists.
