Bavanachchadu is a cute comedy involving two sisters who will sacrifice anything for the other. The
daughters of a small time farmer Bharani, Meenakshi (Simran) the eldest is married to Ajay
(Nagarjuna) a popular ad filmmaker. Her funloving sister Lahari (Reema Sen) has a whale of time teasing her sister and
her husband during their marriage and she becomes good friends with her bava who is an epitome of goodness.
Once married, Meenakshi goes off on a honeymoon where she meets with an accident as some ruffians bump into
her. Of course they are bashed up by our hero. But she fractures her hand and so rushes back home. Her
parents including her ever-loving sister come to take care of her. During their stay, Lahari is offered a
chance to act opposite Ajay in one of his ad films as his regular heroine (Suman Ranganath) is laid up with
a back problem.
And the film takes an interesting turn here. In one of her close encounters with her bava gets ignited by her
bava’s touch and the love waves inundate her to the point of falling in love with Ajay. When she tells the
same to her sister, Meenakshi agrees to share her husband with Lahari and arranges for their marriage.
But Ajay refuses. The rest of the film is how Meenakshi makes everyone agree to the marriage of her
husband with Lahari. But the million dollar question is: Will Lahari finally marry Ajay?
The film has lots of comic incidents that evoke
laughter, but it is devoid of the intensity that would turn it into a laugh riot. And that is where the film
fails. There are also many lose ends in the story. And the characters of Reema Sen and Nagarjuna are not
worked out properly. The result is that Nagarjuna gets to play second fiddle to Simran. Surprisingly for a
big hero like Nagarjuna there are very few characters in the film. Of course, there is an unnecessary
character called Suman Ranganath who hovers around him
to marry her. But despite the presence of three
heroines, the film doesn’t take off for the simple
reason that is insipid and unpalatable to the tastes of the audiences.
