IIIT, Hyderabad is an autonomous, self-supporting institution started in 1998 with seed support from the Government of Andhra
Pradesh. A major goal of IIIT is to impart a uniquely broad and interdisciplinary IT education of the highest academic quality. This is achieved through an integrated curriculum that consists of a highly diverse set of IT courses, interdisciplinary IT research projects, day-to-day interaction with industry, preparation in entrepreneurship and personality development courses.
Research centres aim at developing IT for specific problems provide students with opportunities for involvement in IT problem solving and innovation. Major national and international IT companies are actively involved in IIIT's academic programmes through their corporate schools on the campus. These include IBM,
Metamor, Motorola, Oracle and Satyam.
Located in Hyderabad, the future Silicon Valley of India, the Institute combines the freedom of an academic institution with the strength of the corporate sector. It enjoys the locational advantage of being close to the HI-TECH City (a centre housing software development centres of companies like Microsoft, Oracle, Motorola, Infosys and GE Capital) and the presence of IT majors from across the globe right on the campus through their schools and research
centres.
Hyderabad combines spectacular growth in Information Technology with the charm of a high quality of life. The Institute has a campus of 62 acres abutting the institutional area of the Hyderabad Central University and about 3
kms. from the HI-TEC City. Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Development Banking (JNIDB) and the CMC Research and Development Centre are located very close to
IIIT. The Indian School of Business, a prestigious business/management institution, is being established by prominent Indian business houses in a campus adjacent to the IIIT campus.
The Institute is at a distance of about 16 kms from Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station (also known as the Nampally Station) and about 18 kms from Secunderabad Railway Station. Bus service is available from several important locations to
IIIT. To get to the campus, buses and autorickshaws and taxis ply regularly.
